Thiess - Mt Owen
Liebherr R996 Excavators Noise Suppression
Installed sound suppression kits to meet noise limits, reducing levels to 113-114dB(A).
Challenge
Thiess needed to install exhaust sound suppression on their Liebherr R996 Excavators to meet the site noise limit of 118dB(A). The equipment could not operate on-site until noise levels were reduced to 116dB(A). Additionally, the excavators faced engine dusting issues, leading to premature engine failures and costly rebuilds.
Solution
Mammoth rapidly designed, manufactured, and installed a custom sound suppression kit within three weeks. Alongside noise reduction measures, Mammoth upgraded the excavators' air intake systems to address the engine dusting problem, enhancing overall equipment reliability.
Project Results
- Noise Reduction Achieved: The sound suppression kit reduced noise levels to 113-114dB(A), exceeding the required noise compliance standards and allowing equipment operation beyond curfew.
- Enhanced Engine Performance: Upgraded air intake systems resolved engine dusting issues, preventing premature failures and extending the operational lifespan of the equipment.
This project demonstrates Mammoth’s capability to provide comprehensive noise suppression and engine performance solutions, ensuring compliance, reducing maintenance costs, and enhancing equipment reliability.
